“A CITY MADE OF SOUND” AUDIO DOCUMENTARY WORKSHOP | ATHENS 2017

In 2017, DESfilms participated in the Workshop for Teens: Urban Soundscapes “A City made of Sound”, as part of the AMERICAN FILM SHOWCASE in Greece 2017.

During the workshop, students were taught how to listen and record sounds, exploring the Athenian soundscape. During the course of two days, 15 teenagers from Greece, France, Bangladesh and Afghanistan became sound collectors while wandering around the city. Their audio recordings – from melodies to noises – were combined with film footage and photographic material to create an audio documentary of the city.

The short “A City made of Sound” was created within the context of the “American Film Showcase: A Tribute to Documentary, Made in the USA“, organized by Exile Room (Valery Kontakos and Despina Pavlaki), directed by Christina Pitouli, Gordon Quinn and Carolyn Hepburn, with the collaboration of the U.S. Embassy in Athens. With the support of the Teenage Network and the Network for Children’s Rights.
